my story

Emily Roman was born on September 25th and is an actor, dancer and musician from Toronto, Canada. Follow her socials on Instagram @emillyroman, YouTube (Emily Roman), and TikTok (@emilyromann)

Emily is currently living in NYC studying acting and screenwriting.  Her latest work is a new series, The Lake, (Amazon Prime Video). She is most known for her role on The Next Step (seasons 6,7,8) as Presley, the feisty young dancer with big goals (CBBC, CBC, NBC Universal, Netflix). Emily also appears in the famed opening audition scene in the Netflix film Feel The Beat. At the age of 12/13 she was Anne's acting double on Anne with an E (season 1) hired by Moira Walley-Beckett which aired on CBC and Netflix worldwide; a great learning experience alongside Amybeth McNulty with some of the best in the business. In her younger years, Emily appeared in several commercials, short films and on magazine covers since the age of 5.

Nominated for two Joey Awards in 2019 and three in 2020 - one for her self-directed music video for Warner Music Canada to Bebe Rexha's "I'm A Mess" and a second for her role as Presley on The Next Step - Emily is determined to continue to impress and entertain audiences of all kinds. She was also awarded a $1000 arts grant by municipal government to produce a short film during the pandemic which was nominated for a Marty Award: This Moment

A dancer at heart, Emily began classes at age 7 and trained for 10 years in the elite company full-time competitive program at Canadian Dance Company. Training 25+ hours per week in all genres and competing at 5 regional competitions and 1-2 national finals each year, Emily managed a very busy schedule while attending high school full time as an honour roll student. She has worked with many renowned dance teachers and choreographers internationally. For years Emily has amazed audiences with her performances and improv abilities winning numerous awards at JUMP, NUVO, 24Seven, Hall of Fame, Starpower, The Knockout, Fever and MOVE dance competitions and conventions each year. Her technique, athletic strength and movement quality is best demonstrated in her 2019 contemporary solo Reborn

In January 2020 Emily held a two-week residency with Rudy Abreu's Embodiment THE Collective and RAdiance companies to perform in his Capezio A.C.E. Awards winner full-length show "The Overthinker" in Los Angeles. Most recently she was chosen as the Dance Spirit Magazine Cover Model Winner for January 2021 for her final solo performance "The Weight of Light".

Her musical interests include singing, guitar, ukulele and piano.  She has performed in various theatre productions including Hairspray (Amber), The Little Mermaid (Flounder), and The Aristocats (Marie). In her spare time she enjoys singing covers and writing her own songs - check out her cover of heyJ's Take Me .

Other credits include commercials for American Girl, Cineplex Odeon, Brand Power, Energizer, YTV, Barbie/Mattel, Walmart and more. She has also been a brand ambassador on social media for Five Dancewear as a Club 5 model, Tan Swimwear Co, Ali & Liv Swimwear, LovingTan, Garnier Canada, Call It Spring, NYX, Justice, Forever 21 Kids, Ivivva by Lululemon, Gem and Company, Zahara Swim, Second Skin Costumes, and Honeycut Dancewear. She works for companies she believes in and wants to help promote: she doesn't like to be considered an influencer as she is much more than this. Although she's accomplished much at a young age, Emily is only at the start of her journey and very excited for what's next.

Last but not at all least, Emily is a supporter of social causes and has a few that are close to her heart - including Plan Canada where she and her family have adopted a foster brother and sister.  4Ocean, Oceana, Because I Am a Girl, and World Wildlife Federation are also charities in which Emily has taken an interest.
